The legal and economical situation of the Thai Cannabis market.

After taking the first steps towards the liberalization of hemp cultivation over the course of the last few years, Thailand’s government decided at the end of 2018 – as the first Southeast Asian country – to legalize medical cannabis. Thereby, Thailand is on track to become one of the most relevant players in the upcoming Asian cannabis and hemp markets, if not worldwide. This is not least due to its exceptional cultivation conditions and central position within the Southeast Asian trading zone. This paper shall give a condensed overview over the status quo in Thailand and the potential emerging from the ongoing developments.
